CARLOTTA GRISI: THE FIRST GISELLE – LA PRIMA GISELLE

Giselle – fairy from the Istrian woods

Late last year, City Library Poreč published a nicely produced edition of the book “Carlotta Grisi: The First Giselle - La prima Giselle” in two languages.

Two facts connect us to this anthological work of ballet romanticism: firstly, the famous ballerina and Gautier's muse for whom that ballet was made, was born on June 28, 1819 in Vižinada, and secondly, the motif of dangerous forest fairies of vengence, deceived and angry girls who did not have enough time to dance in life, stems from the Slavic tradition.

At the presentation of the book about Grisi and the character of Giselle which challenges and bears modern interpretations, we will see some parts from the ballet.
