As a regenerative dancing and dialogue between African rhythms and urban culture, Tahaman mixes hip-hop and traditional African dances, such as Bolowi which comes from the north of the Ivory Coast. The choreography is based on the play between stools and drums, linked by the rhythm, getting sometimes very close to the beat of hip-hop. A tremendous vitality radiates from this harmonious mix of bodies and beat. Thanks to the masterful and subdued power of the dancers, we get a better grasp of the close links between the two forms of art. With its combination of humour and emotion, traditional and modern, Tahaman is at the same time reflection and spontaneity, creation and memory.
Georges Momboye Dance Company
Founded in 1992 by Georges Momboye, this Company gathers dancers, musicians and singers. Most of them stem from the great national ballet troupes of Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Guinea and Senegal. Choreographer Georges Momboye gives the company a most distinct contemporary flavour. From his early age, he was trained in African dances, and then went on to study jazz, classical and contemporary dance with the famous masters such as Alvin Ailey, Brigitte Matenzi, Rick Odums and Gisele Houri.
