LE SONGE-DREAM is a free adaptation of Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream, in circus-like manner, premiered in May 2001. Why A Midsummer Night's Dream?
There are several reasons: it is so full of images that we like, that we are wondering if Shakespeare had not written it for us.
Besides, in his time people enjoyed performances in the open, there were couple thousands of them at each performance and they were very eager. Exactly as our audience in the street. Then, it is exciting to interpret such a gamut of love. And, we are often chided for being naive, and that we will continue to be, but we can also take the risk, because it is complicated to stage a Shakespeare without words. Through a series of twelve images, Compagnie Jo Bithume tells the world-known story with the help of pyramids, trapeze, fire effects, image projections, water and wind... in order to create with its theatre - a mix of comedy, circus and music - a space of dreams and mutual emotions.
Compagnie Jo Bithume has performed more than 1000 shows in Europe and has played in Indonesia, Brazil and Venezuela.
